Conan-kun from AnimeOne asked me to post this. Consider it the official group stance.

Dear AonE fans,

After fansubbing Naruto for over 4 years, we regret to inform everyone that we will not be continuing with the series past season one (episode 220). This is for a variety of reasons but the main being that subbing the show is just no longer fun for a lot of the staff members. The show is also a tremendous use of resources for AonE which is hurting our other shows. Naruto Shippuden is not the only show that we are “dropping”, we will also not be continuing with the Gundam SEED Destiny Special Editions. We will however be subbing the Stargazer OVAs. We ARE still subbing Daa! Daa! Daa!, so do not fear DDD fans.

By making these sacrifices, we can better concentrate on our current shows as well as possibly a new one that we are interested in. We will be doing everything possible to catch up on our backload and finish some old shows (BBB, SnS III, etc) before the next season begins.

These decisions have not come easy. There have been many heated discussions behind the scenes. We are facing an evolving fansubbing world, and unless we consolidate our resources we will be unable to keep up.

We are still recruiting for staff members, particularly Translators, QC, and TSers. Please see us on IRC in #aone-recruit (on irc.rizon.net) and private message an op.

Regardless of the show, AonE will continue to provide high quality fansubs for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for all your support!

    Just think of all the good shows that AonE could have done over the last 4 years instead of wasting its time on crap like this show.

    Sad news, but I can understand AONE staff. I worked as a cleaner for Shannaro! for a long time, and I know that doing fansubs or scanlations for long manga/anime is tiring.

    I wonder if another high quality fansub for Naruto Shippuuden will come out, though. DB are fast but I prefer slower groups… :cry:

    Though i can understand why AonE Dropped this.. and i DO Love AonE\\\’s Naruto Releases.. I still think it\\\’s a WISE Decision! Coz all these years there were helluva of a lot other AWESOME animes that were subbed by AonE and SHOULD be given more/proper Concentration…

    Anime is whole wide world of variety shows.. it\’s not like Naruto is the only thing watchable in the world.. ;) Not to mention the “other side” subbing Naruto isn’t bad at all (Except for Bleach)

    This is btw not a joke (we aren\’t like DB trying to mis guide all of you) we aren\’t really communicating much through official channels as we don\’t think that\’s something that would really serve us as a group. So anyway it\’s not a joke there will me no shippuden. I believe we\’ve already subbed the movies/ovas out there and I don\’t know about that last movie, if there\’s even some source out there. But we won\’t be subbing that either.

    at least SD is doing naruto shippuden for now… but they’ll probably stop when it’s licensed… the quality is superior to DB…

    It\’s a shame really,
    I think AonE should have subbed Naruto season 1 up until the fillers started and then not done the fillers – concentrated on their other series and taken a rest from Naruto, then picked it back up for the second season (Shippuden) having missed all the useless fillers. This would have given them time an energy to catch up on the other projects, and hopefully allowing them to enjoy Naruto – as I think the fillers drained even the fans some what.
    But at the end of the day it\’s upto the group what they do and their HQ Naruto releases will surely be missed by the Naruto fandom, nothing can be done about it and we should thank AonE for what they have done so far and look forward to their releases of other series.

    First of all I would like to say a big thanks to the AonE team for doing such a fantastic job with Naruto. You guys will be sadly missed by all Naruto fans. It was because of you guys I got into Naruto in the first place. I can understand where you guys are coming from and I actually sensed that you people would move on since I\’m sure some of those fillers were mindnumbingly boring to translate and encode. I wish the best of luck on all your future endeavours in other anime, I might even check some of them out myself. One final thing, my one wish from you guys is to actually do movies 2 and 3(whenever that comes out), possibly reteaming with ANBU or another fansubbing grouo if need be. That way you guys can claim to have completed all of Naruto part 1 (eps, OVAs and movies). Until then I shall be waiting for the remainder of the eps…..

    As far as I know we’ve done the second movie? And released it as well… maybe it went by unnoticed, or I’m terribly misinformed about all of this.

    We have a bit of a policy to not drop anything, that’s what got us in trouble with Naruto in the first place. Ofcourse we also wanted to complete it for the fans however having people say “Oh nice we’ll download AonE for the archive” … well it’s not really rewarding. It’s nicest to see that people download and enjoy watching the shows you sub.

    im sad to hear you are dropping it i started with aone subbed versions of naruto however personally i went to db back around ep 130 ish i think around dec. 2005 not because i didnt like aone but because as you stated with the load of sub\’s you were doing they were able to do it faster baing that it was their only sub besides bleach.. at least theres others out there still doing it so all of us naruto fans are not at a total loss and aone is still doing the shows i really like which there is no one else for .. if any big naruto fans here who solely got it from aone dont know or have a clue as to where to get the new series from message me on the fourms :whitefang1987 and ill help you out

    I’ve been waiting for AonE’s Shippuden and hoping that they’d sub it so I’ve been patient and whatnot and getting the AonE Naruto releases as they came and watched all the fillers through the years it’s been airing.

    unfortunately, i don’t watch any other show you guys currently sub, but I appreciate what you’ve done in the past (Naruto, KKM, etc.) I hope this allows you all to pick up some other animes. And, if not, at least you all get to enjoy yourself a bit more and put more effort into what you’ve got.

    Well I said this once and I’ll say it again, it’s not a joke. We don’t joke about these things. We don’t often communicate towards you guys in such a manner so please no more of that “is this a joke” “could you still sub it (some time)?” stuff.It’s highly unlikely we’ll touch Naruto Shippuden ever. You can’t tell what the future will bring however we do not like subbing something half way it’s all or nothing in our case and we definitely do not have a history of dropping and picking up shows half way.

You guys have provided a significant amount of the inspiration bhind my contribution to the fansubbing scene. I hope we at SD can live up to the high standard that ou guys have set.

    The decision of Naruto was sad, but I would have done the same. I hate the fact that I won\’t watch Naruto done in such a high quality, but I really do understand. Watching the fillers killed me, and I can only imagine what subbing it does…

    If this frees a lot of resources and you can finish several of your current projects, then it\’s even better. Thanks for subbing the useless Naruto so long, and never quitting. Credits for that really.

    I always download the AonE sub if there are several. Because they have ~175 MB episodes, XVID that always works in my DVD-played, and first and foremost, the quality of translation. Best group ever in this aspect.

    Indeed Movie 2 wasn\’t released by AonE.. or I\’m definitely missing out on something. But in the end the group does what it wants, and if we enjoy it that\’s a bonus. I must just say I have thoroughly enjoyed all your Naruto Encodes to any other fansubber\’s, I always waited for AonE\’s encodes even when 20 odd behind.. watching it by other groups that I won\’t name and insult, would have been a dampened experience.

    It\’s not that surprising, and it\’s understandable. I\’m sorry to wave goodbye to AonE\’s quality work on Naruto but it\’s not like the series itself is dead. And I\’m still waiting for each DDD release with nervous anticipation. The waits are worth it.

    This is simply horrible. I wish another show could have been dropped instead of Naruto. DB fansubs just doesn\\\’t cut it. Thanks for all the wonderful work you all did on this anime and I hope that sometime you will pick it back up and continue with the second season.

    the group has no obligation to do anything. The movies, the OVAs, the specials are all non-canonical, and not part of the series itself. Moreover, the group doesn’t owe anyone anything.

    In other words: quit telling the group what they “must” do.

    exactly, be glad that they at least are finishing part 1 of naruto (220 eps.), I know I am! Having movies 2 and 3 are a great feature, but they are free to do whatever they want. I think that we should be glad that they informed us. Otherwise there would still be thousands of fans waiting for an AnimeOne release! At least now we know what the deal is. Also, I don’t think there is anything that will change their mind about this subject, so I think it is fair to say that Naruto Shipuuden really will not happen, (and if we can believe Badguy) ever again. I know it’s sad, but that’s the reality we must accept and move on!

    In regards to AonE and Naruto Shippuden, we\\\’ll all have to see if things change and AonE decides to do it.

    Ideally, I\\\’m assuming that most of us definitely want AonE to continue to be as awesome as they are and fansub Naruto Shippuden. But AonE seems to be lagging behind with their other projects which is why I think that they feel that dropping Shippuden and not doing it at all is better for the other projects. I guess from this, I can extrapolate that this decision was heavily based on a need for more staff.

    I\\\’m sure that AonE staff know how popular Naruto is and how much more popular Naruto Shippuden is.

    So we\\\’ll just have to see if a miracle will occur and AonE ends up doing Naruto Shippuden.

    Sorry for the double post (lack of edit button here), but what “complich8″ is saying is correct.

    We should all realize that fansubs are given to us for free. The staff that works on these take time out of their lives. The few HQ fansub groups, such as AonE, should definitely be appreciated more because:

    a. we get the fansubs for free
    b. they do such a great job with every release
    c. they take their time to check for errors
    d. they “style-ize” the typesetting (i.e. subtitle font) and OP and ED karaoke…something not many fansub groups do

    I had a feeling this would happen since AnimeONE never made any confirmations about fansubbing Naruto: Shippuuden.

    I just want to say thanks for subbing Naruto (and everything else I’ve downloaded from you guys). It’s sad that you decided to stop but it’s understandable, especially with a long series like this. I stuck with AonE’s Naruto releases, and only AonE\\\’s for this long, so I will continue to watch the rest of the series until you guys finish it (and once I actually catch up with what you have released so far!). I appreciate your hard work. Once again, thanks AnimeONE.

    I’ll start reading the manga after the last episode is released.

    BadGuy, not all people used Aone\\\’s Naruto episodes only for archive purposes… I and many others only saw your realeses and waited for them not caring that they came later than others\\\’.
    Quality before speed. I really liked this aspect of AonE and I\\\’ll miss it in Naruto Shippuuden… but I see other anime subbed by your group, so it won\\\’t be so bad, hopefully. :wink:

    naruto have maybe as much as downloads as the other series all together .. how many people watch naruto and how many ppl watch DAA or whatever ?

    I mean just look at your forum!! Naruto has ALMOST THE DOUBLE of posts than your general Anime concerning all of the other! and if we are also talking about the manga then more of 50% of the posts are about Naruto! besides the comments of your frontpage when there is a naruto topic the amount of people commenting skyrockets

    i hope in the near future you will see how wrong you were about leaving Naruto! i agree with Ichigo anyway of saving Naruto subbing ? i bet there would be A LOT of folks volunteering!

    I think this is a good decision. DB\’s naruto release is OK. Naruto is to long anyway to be in my collection (watch/delete) :P . Now that there\’s no more Naruto, AonE can cocentrate on BBB!

    Don t know Daa Daa Daa, but others projects aren\\\’t as exciting as naruto, and certainly less asked.

    So what\’s the big f*cking deal here? AOne, I love you guys but when quality speedsubbers like DB are around, there really isn\’t a need for other groups to sub Naruto. AOne should focus on other projects that need quality subbers and that\’s why I think they made the right move.

    With regards to Naruto, DB has improved so much in the last few years that the quality of their Naruto subs has actually surpassed AOne subs. Just compare the subs from the latest eps. DB is clearly more conversational and more faithful to the context. \

    Maybe AOne seems more “babelfish” to me because I’m a Japanese native, fluent in both Japanese and english?

    Here’s hoping for more AOne subs for anime that actually needs it! Leave Naruto to DB (and SD if they can improve their subs.)

    That is entirely true :) but what is the purpose of fanssubers ? owe people ? lol.. i don’t think so :) they exist to serve the public! right ? when the service drops at half of the show, the fansub tends do drop on people’s consideration! :\

    interesting point Atolicus makes about Naruto. In 4 years, the Naruto project has generated 215 episodes, and a couple ovas and specials and a movie. In 5 years, the Daa Daa Daa project has generated 59 episodes.

    Naruto fans think they’ve got it hard, ’cause they have to wait or pick a different release. Those Daa fans have been pretty well stranded for a solid year longer than Naruto has existed.

    I’m no fan of shoujo-style anime in general, and in particular dislike Daa. But there’s a lot of good organizational reasons for AnimeOne not to commit to another indeterminate death-march like they got into with Naruto series 1. They really need to get the demoralizing factors off their plate, and projects that should have been over with three years ago definitely fit that description.

    Also … fansubbing as a public service? Hardly. Fansubbing is a hobby, which serves the interests of the fansubbers. Whether the fansubbers’ interests lie in making people happy, honing their language skills, playing with pretty graphics or new technologies, or just burning a couple hours a week, that’s what it’s meant for. Don’t go putting things on pedestals that don’t belong on them.

    i don\\\’t agree with this considering the months without any DDD release out there. i would argue on it but complich8 said it better. also, statements such as the one saying that the group will be forgotten after dropping Naruto are ridiculous and make me really angry! some of the biggest fansub groups out there never subbed Naruto, nor Bleach. people started picking on DDD after we expressed our happiness that the group will probably have more time to work on it now. but DDD and Naruto can not be compared – first of all AonE is the ONLY group subbing it. so, please don\\\’t hate on us, we\\\’ve waited long enough and are just hopeful we get to see our show finished.

    Well the YHBTs are part of DB\’s charm. They realease them when they are taking a little longer to get the release out, or, if any of you morons bother to go look up the episode release schedule, when there is no new episode playing in Japan that week. Its something they do to allow those who keep up with their site to know that they still exist, rather than post only when a new episode is out, like ADC-Elites or some other fansubbers out there.

    I was talking with a friend about good subbers and he always wondered why my anbu aone eps would show on my PS3 and his db version would not work. I told him I got it from an old school subber back when I was in college. I stopped after the filler was around graduation and so on. I wanted to come back and see if you guys still were doing the subs and found this :cry: . It reminded of the old times where animeone and anbu were in a “disagreement” I even have a few old eps from both of groups divided. Even though I’m a year late and I did start back up when season 2 started, you guys will always be the best, although not going to lie if I wanted a good ebonics version of naruto I got it from saiyaman if anyone remembers them lol translations were poor but they were sure funny, downloaded yours a day after it came out. You guys are missed and will always be missed. You guys will always have the best PQ and AQ, take care and wish you the best. :mrgreen:
